About ASG

The Swiss Geographical Association (ASG) is the umbrella organization for Swiss geographers. The regular members of the ASG are specialized geographical societies, regional societies, and university geography departments in Switzerland.

The statutory objectives of the ASG include the following:

  • Fostering networking among the various fields of the discipline: research, teaching, and practice,
  • Promoting dialogue among Switzerland’s different regions and language groups,
  • Participation in current sociopolitical debates.

In its current term, the ASG is pursuing the following specific goals:

  1. Promoting international exchange,
  2. Strengthening cooperation among Switzerland’s language regions,
  3. Promoting mid-level faculty and ethnic diversity at universities,
  4. Advancing concrete measures in the context of climate change.

Instruments

  • GeoAgenda is the ASG's magazine, published quarterly
  • Thematic groups in the fields of human geography, physical geography, didactics, and applied geography
  • Travel grants for young researchers to participate in congresses

The ASG keeps an archive at the University of Neuchâtel in which historical documents of Swiss geography are collected.
