Mobility as a Key Perspective

Mobility in its various forms is considered an organizing principle of our societies and thus constitutes one way—among others—of understanding territorial development. Of particular note are the mobility of people (which relates to issues of housing, migration, and transportation), the mobility of wealth (which may or may not benefit certain parts of the country), and the mobility of ideas (just as the frameworks and models of urban and regional development that shape the debates do).

Early Examples of Projects

One project supported by this group is the Swiss Mobility Conference. It is co-organized by the Institute of Geography and Sustainability at the University of Lausanne and the Laboratory of Urban Sociology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. This annual event brings together social scientists—from Switzerland and abroad—who work on various forms of spatial mobility. This group also explores the topics it has adopted by participating in scientific events such as the Swiss Geoscience Meeting or GeoAgenda.
